I think I'll start with with the fact that we celebrated Mike's 35th birthday yesterday... happy birthday, Mike! The plan was for him and me to go to dinner together... it's been a long time! Well, things came up that made us have to change our plan. Mike ended up having to go to La Crosse that night for work and my sister ended up going into labor, so I went up to Oshkosh to wait for the baby to arrive. It was my parents and me. : )
We did take the kids to Gillies for Mike's birthday... felt like we should do something. The kids also gave Mike his present. I helped them pick out a bunch of random things he likes... beef jerky, cashews, gum, golf tees and milk duds. The kids and I also put some streamers up that Mike was supposed to break through when he walked inside the house. He wasn't as excited about it as we were. The kids ended up being the ones that got to break through the streamers... they had fun doing that!
After Gillies Mike drove to La Crosse for work, Mary came over to watch the kids (less Rachel, who slept at a friends house) and then I drove up to Oshkosh.
Thanks Mary and Michelle for helping with the kids. I'm so happy I went up by my sister... it was fun!!
So, now... my sister in labor.
I was up to feed Nate at 3am on Tuesday morning. I finished and sent my sister a message through facebook that I hadn't responded to the night before. She responded immediately and asked if I was up late or early. I told her that I was up to feed Nate. She said she was up because she thought her water was maybe starting to break. How exciting!!!! We messaged back and forth for a couple hours on and off... very excited to think that this would probably be the day she'd meet that little baby and we'd finally get to know if it was a boy or girl!
This was what the sky looked like early in the morning - I could tell it was going to be a good day!
Well, to make a long story short I guess... she ended up spending most of the day at home waiting for contractions to start picking up, which never happened. Finally at 3pm her and Tim went to the hospital per the doctors instructions. She wasn't dilated anymore than her last appointment and they gave her pitocin. By about 5pm her contractions started picking up and were getting more and more uncomfortable. I wish I would have written down the dilation updates we received. Basically, she was progressing about a cm/hour. At that rate this baby wouldn't be born on Mike's birthday... it'd be the following day. I thought it'd be neat for them to share a birthday, but thought at this point probably very unlikely.
I got up there about 7:30pm and I think she was about 5 cm at that point... can't remember exactly. What I do remember though is that my sister got her epidural, she was comfortable, we all just chatted, watched the Brewers lose again, and did a lot of laughing. It was my sister, Tim, my parents and me. Good times!

So, things were going very slow throughout the evening and early night hours. They checked her again about 11pm and she was 8 cm. They said that things could happen in the midnight hour... very exciting!! At about 11:10pm my sister made a comment to the nurse that was in there... "i'm feeling a lot of pressure." The nurse's response was "that's awesome!" She then asked Sheri if she felt like she could push and Sheri said "maybe." They the nurse said "you're at the top of a contraction right now, could you push?" Sheri said "yes, I think so." My parents and I took the hint and left assuming they'd check to see what she was now dilated to. We were in the family room. I swear not more than about 15 minutes later Tim walks in and says... "well, do you think Sheri or I was right?" I said "what? she didn't have the baby already?!" He said "do you think Sheri or I was right?" I have no idea what we said, but then he told us it was a girl! I was in shock!!!! I thought they were just going to check her... not that she was going to have a baby!!! It was crazy! I guess it took one push and there little baby girl was here! I still can't believe how fast the end went! I really thought Tim was messing with us!
[the note I made when Tim told us about the baby]
So, Nevie Bea arrived at 11:45pm on July 24th. She is lucky to share a birthday with her Uncle Mike. : ) She was 7lbs 13oz and 20in long. So adorable, too!!!!
Here are pictures of the little sweetheart!! Love her so much and miss her already!
This video is when we first walked in Sheri's room to meet Nevie. So cute!!!

My parents and I hung out for about an hour and then headed home. I got home about 1:30am and was so tired, yet so excited still I couldn't get to sleep. I was also sure Nate was going to get up soon. Turned out he got up about 3am I think. I fed him and then of course, he didn't go right back to sleep. I was so tired! Tried putting him in his bouncy seat, but that didn't really help. I walked around with him and then about an hour later I decided to just try to give him another bottle. And, that worked. He feel asleep, so I could get him to bed. Then just a couple short hours later I was up for the day. So, I think I got about six total hours of sleep the last two nights. I shouldn't complain though... it's probably more than Sheri has gotten! : )
I took the kids up there to visit today, too! We were there for a couple hours. So glad I went and took the kids. Abby and Ryan were there, so the kids had fun! Can't wait to visit again! : )

I feel like there's so much more I could/should write. But, unfortunately, I'm running on too little sleep and am about to fall asleep. Come on Nate... don't get up for awhile yet. I'm tired! I really should proof this before posting, but I'm just too tired. So, I apologize for an typos! ; )
Again, a big THANK YOU to Mary and Michelle for helping with the kids, so I could share this special experience with my sister, Tim and my parents... it was so much fun!
Keep smiling... : )
