Bike to School
What a perfect day for biking to school. Since Lakeshore has a large percentage of kids who take the bus to school they arrange bike-to-school to start at a nearby park n ride. Not sure exactly how far away it is from school... I'd estimate a good couple miles.
The kids were very excited. I ran with the kids last year, because Nate was too little for the bike trailer thing. I had him and Kate in the jogging stroller. This year he's big enough for the bike trailer... it was much easier on me. ; ) It was a lot of fun... and very memorable, which I'll go into a bit of detail about.
Eli has great endurance and was ahead of us with a friend most of the time. Rachel is not a fan of riding her bike and it probably didn't help that her tires were low on air, which I didn't realize until tonight. Sorry, Rachel. It was a good thing we were pretty much alone at the end of the pack though. There is a small bridge on the trail with ramps up to the bridge one each side. Well, thankfully the bikes were going very slow up to the bridge and there were people there making sure people were careful going up the ramp. Well, Rachel made it up just fine... and over the bridge just fine. Trouble came when she started on the ramp down, away from the bridge.
I can still see it vividly... and hate replaying it. But, here goes... she was in front of me. As soon as she started down the ramp, her front tire went off the edge, then she kind of got hung up before going over the side. Ugh. My heart just sunk. All I could hear was "mommy" and then the sound of brushy twigs cracking. I'd say it was about a four foot fall, so a decent fall with a bike. She cried mostly from embarrassment I think. The good thing, well two good things, were... 1) she wasn't hurt and 2) there really weren't any other kids by us. So, nobody really knew it even happened. She could have easily broke a leg or arm with that fall. Thank you milk! ; ) She said that she looked down and got kind of nervous and shaky and that caused her to lose control a bit and she just couldn't recover from it. All I know is going over that bridge will never be the same. It always used to be the highlight of the trail ride. Darn.
[here are the kids before out ride]
Four-Mile Run
I was due for a four-mile run and got that in mid-morning. Mike was working from home, so I was able to go without the kids. As I was running I saw a sock on the side of the trail. Looked closer and realized it was Nate's sock!!! It must have dropped out of the stroller when I took them running last week! So funny!
Rachel: Mile Run in Gym
Rachel also had her mile run in gym this afternoon. They invite parents to join the kids, so I usually like to go there for that. I ran with Kate and Nate in the stroller. They had fun and Rachel did great! She ran the entire time. I feel bad because think she could have gone much faster. I wanted to try to get her to run the entire thing and tried pacing her. Think I paced her too slow. But, she didn't walk. I was very proud of her! It was a lot of fun!
[Kate even got a popsicle after the run!]
The kids had more fun playing outside again this evening. This weather has been great!! Looks like we might have some rain tomorrow. As much as I'll miss being outside... it'll be much easier to get some laundry done when it's yucky out. : )
[found another thing that occupies Nate for more than three seconds (at least for now)... yeah!]
Keep smiling!!
