Sunday 9.9.12
Okay, looking at my planner now to help me remember what happened and just realized that it was Grandparents Day... SORRY grandparents of my kids!!!
It was a pretty low-key day. Rachel had a friend over once she was home from her sleepover at grandma and grandpa's. Eli didn't bother them too much. We watched the Packer game and had snacks... always fun! Pretty much snacked for dinner... my kind of dinner!
Monday 9.10.12
Eli had his 6-year check up. All went well! Eli actually answered questions, walked on tip-toes/heels, skipped and completed his hearing and vision tests without a problem. I was so proud of him. Last year he pretty much refused to do anything. We left there and the doctor didn't know if Eli could walk on his tip-toes, skip or see!
Stats:
Weight: 47lbs (58%)
Height: 46in (59%)
I went up to Oskhosh with Kate and Nate after getting Eli to school. Nate needed more pjs... he's already in 18 month pjs. I can't keep up with pjs for him. Seems I get the next size and they get small right away. Always seems he has on tight pjs... poor kid. We want to get our family pictures taken soon, so I also started to get some ideas of what we could all wear. Still not sure! I'm already nervous for the event. ; ) After shopping I met my sister and Nevie for lunch. It was so nice... love hanging out with them.
Also, got to see Christy and Olivia's new house... love it so much!!! Christy closed on Monday and started moving already that day. The big stuff is being moved this weekend. I'm so happy she found this place.. it's just perfect. Love it!!
Now for the part I hate to even remember... but, think I should include. Some day I'll look back at and not have my heart sink when just thinking about it. I'm sitting at home around 4pm and just about ready to go pick up the kids from the bus stop when the phone rings. It's school. It was Eli's teacher saying that Eli was at school waiting to be picked up. My heart just sunk and then started pounding. I felt so bad and immediately said I'd be right there to get him. I know where the confusion came from... but, boy did I feel stupid and so sad for Eli. [I will be picking up Eli from school on Mondays starting next Monday when Rachel starts jump rope, but until then he was to take the bus. I sent an email to his teacher late last week, but didn't put anything in his folder on Monday... so, I should have done that. Now I'm paranoid that someone will be in the wrong place.] Eli seemed okay with it. I know it bothered me way more than it bothered him. Eli is just so shy though... so all I picture is him waiting there and watching all the other kids leave and then it's just him. Poor guy. Initially, I was thinking he should have known that he was to take the bus, because Rachel hasn't started jump rope yet. He has a tag on his backpack and it says Mondays he is get picked up "sometimes," so he said his teacher told him I was picking him up... because that is what his card said and I didn't have a note stating otherwise. So, he just figured I was getting him for some reason. I was also disappointed that Rachel didn't notice Eli wasn't in the bus line and figure out why. But, after talking to her, turns out she did have a conversation with Eli and her teacher and wasn't sure why Eli was being picked up. So, she was also put in a weird spot... not sure why Eli was getting picked up and not her. How am I going to keep everyone in the right place at the right time when I have four kids in school... geez!
Eli also had his first night of flag football on Monday. He had a blast! I wasn't able to make it, because I had a parent meeting with Rachel's teacher that evening. Mike is helping out with flag football when he's home, which is nice. I think Eli was excited that Mike was going to be there helping, too. Every day he asks how many more days until flag football. Glad I talked him into signing up. : )
Tuesday 9.11.12
September 11th is always a sad day. Just brings back so many memories of that terrible day, now already 11 years ago. Mike and I usually watch some of the documentaries to make sure we never forget. There were so many heros that day...
I met Jenny and Evie at the park in the morning. We mostly just walked around the park... was a beautiful day! Also let the kids swing for awhile and Kate played on some equipment. Good time!
Rachel had piano and my favorite show, Parenthood, was on for the first time this season! Love that show. I feel there are some things I can really relate to... I cry several times each episode. Sometimes tears of happiness, sometimes tears from thinking ahead to things I'll have to go through with my own kids. I also love looking at the set... love all the decorating, etc. Excited already for next week.
Wednesday 9.12.12
Today was the first day that the kids were at school and I had nothing planned or to do... exciting. I started by cleaning the garbage drawer. This is really sad, but I hadn't attacked that yet really good since we moved in. It was pretty gross, which I hate to admit. Most of the dirt just didn't even clean off. Finally washed as best I could and then painted the inside of the drawer. It looks so much nicer. One of those things I've been wanting to attack for a long time... felt awesome!! I'm excited to get many more of those types of projects done this school year. : )
I also went to Target tonight to get a few things. While I was there I remembered the Rachel's teacher said the kids can bring in a discman to use to listen to books on CD that she has. I thought she said they had a cheap one at Target. So, when I was there I asked... and, never felt so stupid! I asked the girl if they had any walkmans/discmans and she looked at me like I was crazy!!! Immediately she was going to try to talk me into getting an Ipod. I said I realize they're out-dated, but explained why I was looking for one. I really have never felt so silly... the look on her face was priceless. She's probably telling all her friends about this crazy lady that was looking to buy a discman right now! ; )
Okay, I guess that's all. Oh wait, almost forgot... we've had some interesting things happen with birds recently. Mike redid our screen room and it looks awesome. He tore out all the old screen, painted the inside of the room and all the trim and then put up new screen. Looks awesome. He left the screen piece out for me to put in the door. Well, that was on Sunday... kind of forgot about. Yesterday evening I noticed we had a hummingbird stuck in our screen room. It could not figure out how to get out. I felt so bad for it! I ended up putting our hummingbird feeder in there so it could at least eat, which it did. Thought we might have this bird as a pet, but Mike was able to get it out by guiding it to the door last night. Poor little thing.
I did get a video of the hummingbird... I felt so bad for it. : (
Then this morning, before I could get the screen door done, there was a woodpecker in there! Really... just what you want in your room with new screens! It was freaking out in there trying to get out and kept pecking at the screens! I tried to guide out with a broom like Mike did with the hummingbird, but wasn't working. Yes, I was freaking out while I was doing this! Decided to get the kids' butterfly net and try to catch it and release it outside. Well, I sure hope nobody saw me! Broom in one hand trying to corner the bird, so I could catch with the butterfly net. Well, I got it... which actually surprised me. I had it trapped between the net and screen. I tried to slide it to the door, but the bird flew out. Darn. After three more catches and it flying out I was able to catch it, flip the net so the bird was stuck in it and then get it outside. I did a lot of screaming and even swore one time. Kate was watching the commotion and did repeat my bad choice of words... I repeated and said "shut"... I should "shut" the door. Yikes! I never swear, but I guess having a bird flying all around you will make it happen. I was so freaked out! The damage from the bird, thankfully, wasn't bad. There were just a few areas of the screen where the bird separated the screen lines a bit and I was able to fix them using a toothpick. Annoying, but so happy it wasn't worse. I immediately put the screen in the door... should have done that right away on Sunday!
Okay, now time for bed...
Keep smiling! If you can't think of a reason to smile just think of me trying to catch a bird with a big broom in one hand and a small butterfly net in the other... that should get a smile out of anyone!
