Didn't think the kids would be playing in the snow on April 20, but that was the case. I told them they could play outside, but I was done playing in the snow for the season! They had a blast and were very wet when they came in. It was nice, because they could play in the snow and didn't get cold at all. They even took their hats off when they were out there.
[way too much snow for April!]
Mike had a vacation day today... so nice to have him around all day!
I started my day by going for my first run since my half marathon. I figured I should stick with it and not lose everything I've built up from an endurance standpoint. Even though there was snow on the ground, it was pretty warm out. I definitely over-dressed! I'd have to say it was the most roller coaster run I've ever had! That is from an emotional standpoint and not hill-wise. I think I'd rather run 13.1 miles with a clear mind than the 3.5 miles I ran today with all the things that were running through my mind. Everything ended up being okay (just house stuff), but what a roller coaster.
I came home and while I was just hanging out cooling off outside Mike, Rachel and Eli ended up coming out to enjoy the sunshine. The kids still had their pjs on, but that didn't stop the slush ball fight from happening. Good times!
I FINALLY attacked Kate's drawers. It was WAY overdue!!! Sorry Christy... I found things there that would have been cute for Olivia, but already probably too small for her. That's how overdue this job was! Things are still scattered on her floor and her drawers are almost empty. Poor girl needs some new clothes. Sounds like fun to me though. : )
This afternoon the boys did their thing and Rachel and I did our thing. Kate was home with the boys... napping most of the time. Mike and Eli painted the refrigerator Mike is using for his homemade beer. Eli was very excited to help. They also played some basketball outside and practiced bounce passes and dribbling. Eli loved it! The basketball went in the ditch a couple times and Eli said one time it was almost washed away with the strong current... our steep driveway is not so good for basketball.
Rachel and I went roller skating with her friend and her friend's mom. I was so nervous! I realized that it's been over 20 years since I've been roller skating. Wow... that made me feel really old!!!! We went to the Spectrum... and it was pretty much the same as I remembered it. Rachel was very excited to meet her friend there. We got our skates and as we were putting them on Rachel said she was frustrated. She really meant she was nervous. It was cold in there and she was almost shaking from both being cold and I think from also being so nervous. This was her first time roller skating... except for the short lesson in gym class. I was having a hard time dealing with her feeling so nervous... I hate seeing her like that. She's always so comfortable with most things she does and it was hard to see her unsure about something. When we first went out on the rink (holding hands) she said... "do we have to stay two hours?" But, once they started playing all the Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Black Eyed Peas, etc... she started having more fun. I held her hand for about the first hour and then she started doing it on her own. I was surprised how quickly she caught on. I thought she'd be hanging onto me or the wall the entire time. The disco balls and lights were a definite challenge for her... as well as her always wanting to watch her friend and have her friend watch her. I was finding it hard to have any sort of conversation with her friend's mom also because I felt the need to really concentrate so I wouldn't fall and also so I could try to catch Rachel if she lost her balance. She did fall a couple times and it wasn't a big deal. Glad she fell a few times. I told her if she didn't fall then we would have had a problem, because that would have meant I was holding on to her too much. : ) I wish I could have video-taped our conversations. There were so many times I smiled because of what she said. Some things cute, some funny... all made me smile. : ) Love her!! It was great to spend some one-on-one time with her. It was also nice to feel so needed. She held onto my hand a lot and tightly. I could feel the trust she had for me. She also looked up at me a lot as we were skating. What a great memory...
Kate did her first art project today!! She used markers and did so well... I'm so proud of her.
Today was a great day!!! : )
