I just had to have a talk with Rachel about being happy with what you have. It's hard as kids get older... they pay attention more to what others have and want things other kids have. We all wish we could give our kids everything they want, but then again, that might not teach them a lot either. Lately, Rachel has wanted everything her friends have. I explained that she has to be happy with what she has. She has many of the things she's wanted, but forgets that when she realizes she doesn't have what a friend has.
I reminded her about some of the things she wanted recently and now has. I told her to be happy with what she has and to be happy for others and what they have... but, not to be unhappy with what others have that she doesn't have. I think she understood, but we'll see.
She got money for Christmas from grandparents and we usually let them spend about $25 of that and the rest goes in their savings. They get so much at Christmas that I feel the money is better off in savings. Well, that's not fun for a kid and I get that. I told her some day she'd understand and would realize putting it in her savings was the right thing to do.
Parenting... so much fun. ; )
Keep smiling!!!
