Christmas 2011

snow... just a little

Well, just two days before Christmas we did get a little bit of snow.  It wasn't much, but it did stick around until Christmas.  Was nice to see at least a little white.  The kids (and Maggie) had a blast playing in it after school on Friday!  Kate was a bit under the weather, so she stayed inside... but, she did have fun watching with her (Rachel's old) snow pants on. : )

Christmas 2011

We had a very nice Christmas this year.  The kids were very lucky to get so many nice things from Santa and also grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles.  I try very hard not to spoil them throughout the year, but Christmas always seems to make up for it.  I'm very good at saying "no" when they ask for things during routine errand shopping.  We do a lot of looking, but not much buying at all if we don't need things.  But, like I said, Christmas is an exception.  There are a lot of unnecessary gifts, but it's so fun to see them so excited!

This year Christy and Olivia slept over (or maybe I should rephrase and say "stayed over")... not much "sleeping" was done!  Olivia was not interested in going to bed in the pack n play, so her and Christy stayed on the couch all night.  As many of you know... that makes for a long night with not much sleep at all.  And, didn't help that Kate was up from about 4-5am crying.  Very memorable Christmas Eve night.  We were very happy to have Christy and Olivia here with us in the morning though... it was a lot of fun! : )

[thanks Santa]

[the kids waiting patiently to come down while I got the camera ready]

Unfortunately, Kate was up during the night because she wasn't feeling well at all.  As hard as it was not to have everyone together when we opened presents, I felt her sleep was much more important.  If we would have woke her up I think she would have been very cranky.

[and, they're off!]

[they love the pet pillows... Eli got a dog, Rachel got a lamb and Kate got an owl]

[this was the year of Mario and Angry Birds for Eli]

[Rachel's own RuMe bag!]

[she's wanted a bed canopy for awhile... she was very excited about this gift]

[this was the year of Justin Bieber for Rachel]

[Olivia even had some presents at our house from Santa... good thing she wrote a note to Santa asking him to deliver some presents to our house if possible. ; )]

[Olivia opening her stocking]

[she loved the movie so much...]

[she kissed it!!]

[finally Kate is awake ~ she really liked her bean bag!]

[she sat on the bean bag and opened several presents... it was cute]

[I'd have to say this was the year of owls for Kate]

[she was very excited about clothes this year]

[classic picture of putting things together!]

So, as you can see, it was a very fun morning for the kids!  I feel very lucky to be able to give the kids such fun memories during this time of year.  I know there are many less fortunate and I'm so thankful for all we have and are able to do for the kids.

We also spent a lot of time with family over the holiday weekend.  I didn't take my camera along to any of them, so unfortunately no pictures to share.  But, we had a lot of fun getting together with family on several different occasions over the weekend and into Monday.  [Unfortunately, because Kate wasn't feeling well on Monday, she and Mike missed Christmas at my parents' house.  We really missed them both!]

Thanks to everyone for all the generosity this holiday season!

Now... time to start planning our New Year's Eve party!  We're having some friends over and the kids are spending the holiday with Nani and Papa and Abby and Ryan as is tradition.  Rachel is very excited to stay up until midnight with Abby!  I usually make shirts for the kids, but might not this year.  Just not sure I'm up for it.  Maybe I'll think of a less time-consuming idea... : )

Keep smiling!
