Friday we welcomed our new butterfly friend into this world. Thursday the chrysalis was getting pretty dark. Then Friday morning you could basically see the butterfly all cramped in there. I told the kids it would most likely open at some point on Friday. We took Rachel to the bus stop and by the time we got back we had a butterfly!! We usually let the kids hold the butterfly and let it crawl on them for awhile before it's ready to fly away... pretty fun. But, this time we wanted to wait until Rachel was home from school because we didn't want it getting away from us on accident without her seeing it. By the time she got home the butterfly was ready to take off. So, we took it out of the container and Eli held it on a stick outside. It flew away immediately. Landed high on a tree to rest for a bit and was off. It's just amazing and so fun to watch... even after all the years I've done this. : )

This weekend was a little different than usual... Rachel went her separate way and the rest of us went a different way.
Algoma - Lake Michigan
My parents so kindly offered to take Rachel with them on a trip north along the shore of Lake Michigan. Their destination was Algoma. They also took my niece, Abby, along. The girls were so excited... and so were Nani and Papa! Not sure who was more excited. : )
Here are some pictures my parents took... looks so beautiful! The girls also got to have a sleepover. I'm sure it was very weird for them and my parents for it just to be the big girls and nobody else. Seems they usually have them all (grand kids) if any. I am so thankful for my parents and their enthusiasm and excitement whenever taking my kids places and watching them as much as they do for us. Thanks so much!

On Saturday, while Rachel was gone, Mike and I took Eli and Kate to Fondue Fest. It was so nice out... actually a little hot, which I feel terrible saying because I know the warm weather is just about at an end.
We had fun! No pictures though. : ( Eli played a putting game and won a ball, which he's been playing with all weekend! We also got some good food and had fun watching all the dogs. A lot of people bring their dogs to this event for some reason. A lot of little dogs that I was afraid were going to get stepped on and a few big ones. We saw one Bernese Mountain dog, like our Maggie, which is always fun to see. : )
Got home from there, Mike cut the grass, Kate took a nap, Eli shot some hoops and I did some cleaning. Then the Hoffman's came over to watch the Brewer game. It was a very nice evening! We had supper with them and then just hung out. They brought a salad to pass and also some puppy chow. The funny part was that I also made puppy chow!! We are both pregnant and I guess had the same craving! We both said that we hadn't had puppy chow in a long time and we both saw it at Festival earlier in the day. They bought a big container and I decided to get the ingredients and make it with Eli. Too funny!!!

Eli also got to go to his friend's birthday party today. He was so excited! There were a couple of his friends from school last year there. They had fun. Eli was pretty shy as usual, but did have fun playing, watching his friend open his birthday presents and eating cake! : )
Today is the first time we've had to put our flag at half-staff. It was very sad. Eli helped me do it this morning. I didn't explain to him why were doing it at the moment, but we did talk briefly to the kids about the events of 9/11 throughout the day. We had specials on much of this morning and evening. It's just so sad... so many people's lives were changed forever that day.
There are so many heroes though that came from that horrible event. Sadly, right now the show that is on is talking about the heroes that made it through that day(s) and helped so many. But, today they are faced with terrible health difficulties due to the toxic air they breathed while helping during this very, very tragic time.

This song, by Alan Jackson, is played every once in awhile on the radio and I love it. I think it really does help people remember... which I think is very important.
There are many, many videos on YouTube with images and video from the events of 9/11, but I decided to include the link to Alan Jackson just singing the song. Then if you want to listen to it you can reflect as you chose. Some of the images in the other versions I found were very difficult to watch. I felt it important to watch myself, but others might not feel the same.
