football, pizza and allowance

Fondy Football
It's that time again... football season.  Mike works the chains with his dad, so we usually go to the home games.  Tonight was the first one.  We met Mike's mom and Christy/Olivia there.  The kids had fun.  We sat in the bleachers for awhile... maybe 15 minutes.  Then to our comfort spot... the visitor side fence.  The kids can run around there and we can kind of watch the game.  This year is a little more difficult than last year.  Nate is running all over and Kate and Olivia are not afraid to walk off... which we learned tonight.  Stinkers.  Rachel had fun with her friends and Eli enjoyed bothering Rachel and her friends.  At one point he told me he was bored.  I reminded him we were at a football game and he could watch the game.  What a concept. ;)

Unfortunately, Fondy lost... but, I'm proud of myself for knowing that.  Since I didn't watch much of the game. ;)

The kids got to run around the field with grandpa after the game, which has become tradition.  They love it.  Nate almost got run over by the grounds keepers cart (omg), but other than that... pretty good night.  Whew!  I think the only injury was Nate's scraped knee.  Looking forward to many more home games this year!

Letting go...
So, about a week ago I was at Little Caesars picking up pizza and there was a little boy that walked in to order pizza.  He had a $10 bill and asked for a pepperoni pizza.  The employee said they didn't have pepperoni, so the boy asked if they had cheese.  No cheese either.  The boy asked what they did have.  The employee said they only had sausage deep dish.  The boy looked at his money and had to think about it.  My pizza was then ready and I left.  I am still wondering what the boy decided to do.  He seemed about Eli's age and did a great job working through the situation.  I couldn't imagine my kids asking the right questions and figuring out what to do with a $10 bill.  I was so proud of that boy and I didn't even know him.

Well, Rachel had a friend sleepover last night, so we went to pick up pizza... just such an easy option! ;)  Since we had five kids I decided I'd let Rachel and her friend go in to get the pizza.  Then we didn't have to haul everyone out.  But, I chickened out and called in the order.  So, they just had to go in and get our order and didn't have to worry about what pizzas were available.  I know I really have to let my kids live a little.  It's the only way they'll learn... but, it's so difficult.

And, yes, since we had another sleepover we put more straws in hair!  The girls had so much fun.  No pictures this time though, darn.  But, I can tell you that the curls did calm down throughout the day and looked nice.  Pretty tight still, but cute and able to be worn in public. ;)

Allowance
We started giving the kids a weekly allowance in June.  I read that you have to let the kids use it on whatever they want... even though it may be difficult to see them spend it on silly, wasteful stuff.  It said that in time they would learn.  Well, just about when I was ready to give up and stop the allowance all together I think they're finally getting it.  Rachel has saved $37.00 and Eli has saved $15.00.  I'm very proud of them. : )

Yesterday, Rachel asked if she could get a song for her iPod.  I told her that she'd have to use her money.  It was $1.29.  Her friend has the song and she really wanted it.  Rachel was going to go get money to give me and I told her to wait and think about it.  In less than a minute she said, "I don't need it... I can listen to it online whenever I want."  Wahoo!  It is only a dollar, but she is starting to learn that even a $1 can add up.
