10,000 Shot Club and Nate Potty Training

Summer is off to a great start so far…

Already had the pool out… the water was freezing, but they still had fun!  This picture was after the little kids were done.  They decided to just sit and watch Rachel and Eli. :)

Rachel is in a basketball camp the first few weeks of Summer that is four days a week.  She is enjoying it.  She brought home a sheet about a 10,000 Shot Club that kids can qualify for.  Initially, she said she didn't want to do it.  I think 10,000 sounds just really overwhelming, so she just said no.  Once she read more and understood it meant about 87 shots a day throughout the Summer she realized it would be possible.  She said it's a lot and I reminded her that it's a challenge and not meant to be easy.  It's about being dedicated to something.  I told her the great part about completing it is that not only will she reach a huge goal she set for herself, she will also get TONS of practice in.  She decided it was something she wanted to do.  So far she has done more than the 87 shots/day… so, she's able to take a day off if needed for bad weather or when she has plans and is gone all day.

[To qualify for the club you have to document all shots taken and if you make or miss them… which I think is great.  She will really be able to see how important practicing is to improving her shot.]

[I went to the Y to run yesterday and Rachel and Eli came along.  It was raining, so she was able to get her shots in there.  Eli was a big helper and helped her keep track of her shots.  Have a feeling Eli will be starting on the challenge, too… but, we'll see.  He probably shoots that much no matter what, so he doesn't really need a club to motivate him to shoot around.  Rachel is different and needs to have a goal with an incentive to be motivated. :)]

And, now for some big news… Nate has been going on the potty almost all week with only a few accidents here and there (mostly due to me not reminding him to go)… so proud of him and happy for him!  He is so excited each time he goes!

He had no interest until Monday.  I bought him a hat at Under Armor on Sunday and he loved it.  It was something I just had to buy… usually don't buy things without a reason.  It was just that cute on him. :)  After I bought it and he was wearing it I thought to myself… this might be the motivation he needs to go potty.  So, told him he could wear it the rest of Sunday, but on Monday he could only wear it if he went potty on the toilet.  Well, Monday morning came and I asked him to try on the toilet and he went!!!!  So, he got to wear the hat. :)  Then he had an accident, so had to take the hat off until he went again.  He went again on the toilet soon after that and many more times on Monday.  Wahoo… I found something that was working!

Grandpa also had an incentive for him to go on the toilet… Nate always wants to use Kate's baseball glove because it stays open better than his little one.  It's hard for him to catch with his glove, because it's very hard to open.  Grandpa said he'd buy him a new glove like Kate's if he started going potty on the toilet.  That, in addition to the hat, worked!  After a few days of doing very well on the toilet and with only a few accidents Grandpa took Nate to buy a new glove!  Nate was so excited!!  Thanks Grandpa for taking him shopping for a new glove… and Brewer hat! :)

Still have to work on #2, but we're getting there.

[here is Nate after his shopping trip with Grandpa]

Keep smiling!
