bike to school, Rachel's mile run and other stuff

Today was Bike to School Day for Lakeshore.  Didn't plan on doing it this year… basically, because I wasn't up for getting all the bikes and carrier for Kate and Nate into the car and to the park and ride where we're able to safely ride bikes to school from.  Rachel also had her incident a couple years ago where she fell off a bridge on her bike, so didn't think she'd be excited about it either.

I asked them this morning at about 7:15am if they wanted to do it.  To my surprise both kids said yes.  I was happy they wanted to, but also not sure how I could make it happen.  We had to meet the rest of the riders at the park and ride at 8am.

Thankfully, Mike was home this morning, so he offered to watch Kate and Nate.  That made it easier, but we still had tires to pump up, helmets to find and bike locks to dig out!  To my amazement, we were only about 5 minutes late.  The group already left on the trail, but we did catch the end before we got to school.  Was a perfect morning for it.  We also got to drive the Jeep, so that made it even more fun!

[kids riding on the trail… so fun!]

[this is "the bridge"that I referenced in my blog post about two years ago.  they put additional railings on the up and down ramps to the bridge.  made us smile!]

Rachel also had the mile run today in gym class.  She always asks me to come to school to run with her.  I can't pass up the opportunity to encourage her.  It was fun.  I was so proud of her!!  She didn't know what she got last year, but we looked when we got home and she beat last year's time by one second!  We laughed about that.

I loved watching all the kids in the class encourage each other.  It was really neat to watch them all cheer on their classmates at the finish.  Almost made me cry… just was really neat to see.

[it was super windy, too!  so proud of Rachel.]

[I got an early Mother's Day gift… thanks, Rachel, I love it!]

[this was some art Kate brought home that I had to get a picture of.  Love her in the bathtub!]

[my first "flower" of the season given to me by a girl with the cutest ugliest panda shirt out there… we laugh about this shirt!]

[the kids' selfie!]

We had a visitor in our yard recently.  The kids had fun with it! :)

Some pictures from my bird-watching afternoon yesterday.  Love to see so many neat birds right outside our home.

[love this smile!]

Keep smiling!
