Nate: First Day of Preschool

Nate had his first day of preschool yesterday!  Wasn't sure if this day would ever come! ;)

He has been signed up, but because hasn't been potty-trained he had to wait to start.  Well, he's pretty much potty trained.  He's good enough to be away for two and a half hours at least, so decided to go for it.  Maybe it's the change he needs to be potty-trained for good.  He's so stubborn with #2.  He's definitely in control, but will not poop on the toilet.  That's why I'm okay with him at school.  I'm pretty confident he'll wait until he gets home to have an accident.  Of course, the last child to be potty-trained would be the most difficult.

He loves school and was so excited to go yesterday!  He was bummed he couldn't go again today.

[my baby!]

So, yesterday, I had my first couple hours with all the kids in school... I was excited, yes.  Although, dropping Nate off was definitely harder than I thought it would be.  I had a few ideas of what to do during the couple hours I had.  First, I could go to the Y and get my run in... Second, I could pick-up and clean the house with the music blaring (love doing this!), or... Third, I could take my time and walk around Target and TJ Maxx with a latte in hand and nobody else to worry about.  Well, after much thought, I decided on the third option.

Get to Target, get my pumpkin spice latte, run into a friend and chat for a bit and then got to the first aisle and started to browse.  It felt so weird!  Then, my phone beeps, I look, and a message from Kate's teacher... SHE had an accident.  This has never happened with her before.  How ironic!!  After I thought about it... I realized I don't think she ever went potty all morning at home and she usually does.  I was so worried about Nate and his "potty schedule" in the morning that I didn't pay any attention to making sure she went before school.  She probably never has to go potty in the morning at school, so completely out of routine for her.  I just felt so bad that it happened.  Everything would have been fine, but the spare outfit I had for her at school was still shorts and it was chilly out yesterday.  He teacher thought she might be cold.  I told her I was at Target and would just get her a pair of leggings and drop them off.  That way I didn't have to run all the way home and then back to school.

Got to school and Kate had a face that just made me sad.  Thinking about it now almost makes me want to cry.  She seemed embarrassed and she wanted to cry, I could tell.  But, she stayed strong and didn't.  We changed her from her shorts to pants and then she went back to class.  Love her...

By the time I was done there I went home, folded a load of laundry and then it was time to get Nate.  So, didn't really accomplish much of anything, didn't get shopping done and didn't get a run in.  Just got to play "mom"... which I love no matter what form it comes in.  All you parents know... there's never a dull moment when you have kids. :)

Keep smiling!
